This Albert Einstein quote (if it is from him—I didn’t have time to fact check) seems to say it all:

Formal symbolic representation of qualitative entities is doomed to its rightful place of minor significance in a world where flowers and beautiful women abound.

And, I might add, in a world where beautiful men abound as well.
